Ancient Landscape

Underlying the landscape of the last thousand years there are archaeological traces of more ancient landscapes that went before.

In out of the way places, where today's fields are rocky or inaccessible, there are the earthworks of farms and fields of Romano-British date, some probably with prehistoric origins.

Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments, many prominently placed on hilltops, also bear witness to the presence of people in the distant past.
