Upper Derwent / time infoRoll

The Upper Derwent is a beautiful valley in the Dark Peak. There is evidence that people have lived here for over 10,000 years - from the time the glaciers of the last Ice Age retreated from the region.

Unlike other more developed areas of Britain, we know a lot about the Upper Derwent's history because there are many surviving features and artefacts from different periods, and since 1994 the National Park's Archaeology Service has been conducting the Upper Derwent Archaeological Survey.
