A landscape shaped by people over thousands of years.

In the past, people lived, worked, and even thought, in very different ways from us today. Much of their society would appear very strange to our eyes, even that of only 200 or 300 years ago.

We can look for clues to these past lives in the landscape of today. In every drystone wall, earthwork, building and artefact there are rich tales to discover, where the words are plainly written but hard to read. These are not the stories of kings and battles but of everyday, ordinary people going about their daily lives in the Peak District of the past.
