Dark Peak and Southwest Peak Rivers & StreamsSmall upland streams drain the blanket bog of the moorlands and fall quickly through narrow wooded valleys or cloughs e.g. Cranberry Clough found in the Upper Derwent Valley. As the streams reach the shale, they join to form rivers that open out into broad wooded valleys e.g. the Derwent. These rivers support simple plants, a wide range of insects and fish such as the bullhead and brook lamprey. As well as the more common birds, goosander and common sandpiper are also found. Wild brown trout exists in some of the rivers. The river banks are home to the rarely seen water vole. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - |
