Bullhead (Cottus gobio)

Also known as the Miller's thumb, the bullhead lives up to its name with an enormous completely out of proportion with the rest of its body! Small, scale-less and olive-brown in colour, the bullhead is often found under stones in the clear, cold streams of the Peak District.

The bullhead is a species of European conservation importance and is listed under the European Habitats Directive. For more information and pictures on the bullhead go to www.english-nature.org.uk/lifeinukrivers/species/bullhead.html
