The hay meadow millenium project

show larger in a new window

Flower-rich meadows were once common throughout the Peak District.

However, in the 1990s, observations suggested that hay meadows were becoming increasingly rare in the Peak District landscape, despite the special protection offered by National Park status.  To try to address the loss of our hay meadows, the Hay Meadows Project was set up by the Peak District National Park Authority's Ecology and Farm & Countryside Service.  The results of the project are summarised in the report 'Hay Meadows Beyond the Millennium'.

The following links are chapters from this technical report, which includes the methodology used, the conservation results achieved and summarises the key lessons learnt about future management of hay meadows.
