Henry Folkard, Climber

Why is Stanage Edge important?

Partly the type of  rock, which is gritstone, this is the only place in the world you can find this rock.  Really good for climbing, really good for bouldering.  There is a lot of it as you can see.  There are routes for everybody, for the expert, the novice, the bold, the timid, for all sorts of people.   Plus it's in a super location, just look at it.  A splendid and unspoilt wide-open place.

Should there be any changes?

Absolutely not, as it is nobody abuses it at the moment.  It wants to be left as it is, it doesn't need controls or regulations or anything like that.  Just freedom for people to come and go and leave it as they found it.
