There is now a general consensus view of what should and should not be done, there was some conflict originally but I think we've ironed them out, buried the hatchet and reached a consensus view of what we want to see at Stanage.

There is also Steering Group, which I am on, it's representative of the big groups and minority groups. We then feed the results back to main forum for approval. There is much more of a consensus, not so much of entrenched positions from everybody.

The forum has made me put my feet firmly in one corner of the debate and I've gone for the ecology and the wildlife. All the user groups have all got voices and the one thing that doesn't have a voice is the ecology, the flora and the fauna and that's what I feel is missing about the forum. It doesn't mean it hasn't been a success for me the positive aspect of the forum is that local people now begin to understand what a complicated area it is to manage.

The BMC is a major user and I think the forum has been really significant, nationally as well as locally, as it has involved the Peak District National Park Authority, in an open dialogue with all users. Nothing of this sort has ever happened, before I believe it has to produce a better solution and a better way forward for everybody.

The National Park works in partnership with its tenants, neighbours, other organisations, visitors and local people through the Stanage Forum process, to achieve a shared vision for the future management of the estate. All parties believe this is a very special place and as the pressures for change increases, we aim to keep the best and make changes for the better.

Stanage/North Lees is managed for the benefit of the nation and we all have a part to play. Only by working together can the Estate be effectively protected, enhanced and enjoyed. The National Park has a central role in trying to achieve this delicate balance.

Check out the Stanage Forum and the North Lees management plans if you want to find out more - or go to www.peakdistrict.gov.uk to find the Stanage Forum and have your say.
