Hi, I’m Jill and I work for the Peak District National Park Authority.   I am going to take you on a visit to the village of Castleton and the surrounding area.  We are going to look out for clues in the landscape, clues that help us to piece together the story of how this place came to be.  We are going to find out why this is a special place and how important it is to look after places for the future.

We are going to find out about how the people who lived here have shaped the landscape over thousands of years and how the rocks that create the special scenery have attracted thousands and thousands of visitors every year.

It is important to understand that whilst many visitors have enjoyed coming to the area, they have had a significant impact both on the landscape and on the people who live here.  We will learn about some of the difficult decisions that are involved in looking after this area in order to take into consideration the needs of all the people who live, visit and work here.

Select an area from the following options to start your investigation:

Odin Mine
The Crushing Circle
Mam Tor “The Shivering Mountain”
The Broken Road
The Hope Valley
The Ancient Valley
